Greatest hits
Just like music, design has its greatest hits. Some, like Arne Jacobsen’s Ant chair, sell millions and become enduring icons. Others fall into oblivion. But how important is it for designers to create best-sellers?
We asked several leading Nordic designers if it’s possible to live of a single hit.
Read more in Form about what Åsa Jungnelius, Yrjö Kukkapuro, Erika Lagerbielke, Thomas Eriksson, Mats Theselius, Thomas Bernstrand, among other designers, think about this and find out what their bestsellers are.

Your best-seller?
The aluminium armchair, called
Theselius, has been produced by
Källemo since 1990. Five thousand
pieces have been sold.
Why do you think that it has become
so popular?
Because it’s expressive and full of
associations. The rounded back was a
staple of the machine functionality of
the early 20th century, and the naïve
shape of the moulded legs transports
you back in time, like before or after
Christ.
Can you live on a single best-seller?
No.
